iPhone 12 to stop selling after radiation claims？

Apple has been ordered to stop selling the iPhone 12 in France because of concerns over radiation levels.

French Digital Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said in an interview with the media that the French National Frequency Agency (ANFR) asked Apple to stop selling the iPhone 12 in France after tests showed that the electromagnetic waves emitted by the iPhone 12 were too strong.

Barrot said the French radiation regulator ANFR notified Apple of banning the sale of the iPhone 12 after tests conducted by the company showed that the specific absorption rate (SAR) of the smartphone was slightly higher than legally allowed. According to the announcement of the French National Frequency Management Agency,  they simulated the contact of mobile phones to the human body in the laboratory and detected the specific limb  absorption rate of the iPhone 12 of 5.74W/kg, which is higher than the upper limit of 4W/kg stipulated by the European Union.

Meanwhile, Barrot said Apple is "expected to respond within two weeks," adding: "If they don't, I'm prepared to order a recall of all iPhone 12s in circulation." The rule is the same for all businesses, including digital giants." He noted that the software update was enough to address radiation issues associated with the iPhone 12, which Apple has been selling since 2020.

There are currently safety limits in the European Union for SAR values associated with mobile phone exposure, which, according to scientific studies, may increase the risk of certain cancers. The French regulator will also pass on its findings to regulators in other EU member states.
